Mike Moats Macro Photography

For this project, I chose Mike Moats who is a photographer from Detroit. He travels around the nation talking about his book called Tiny Landscapes. His book shows the true beauty of nature from a close-up perspective instead of how we view things every day. All of his photos focus on not just a flower or plant, but what happens to this flower or plant when you get up close and show its real beauty of patterns, light, and feeling. I think these batch of photos are one of my best so far and, I have enjoyed taking these the most. My recipe was to take these photos with a macro lens and take many photos of the same subject with different focuses.

  1. Hey Danny! I have to say that I'm very impressed by how close and focused you were able to get your photos. I like the photos of flowers paired with the dark background/heavy shadows, especially when the flower is like a pop of color. Great job this week!

  2. I like the flower shots the best, because I think color plays a great role in your series. While the black and white shots are good, I think the inclusion of vibrant colors will produce a very visually striking series.

  3. Besides some photos that look out of focus, these photos really capture the feel of Mike Moats. Some of these photos also look a little dark in comparison to others. The black and white photos also highlight the light very well but distract from the subject of the frame. I especially like the more simplistic photos where the background is blurred and unclear.

  6. I really like the way that you got so close to the photos and used the shadows to make the photos really pop. Really good job this week!
